Video Diaries

An action research project conducted at a local school (2018)

Situation: A student struggling with confidence in classroom activities. Unable to answer questions in class and reduced to tears when asked to speak in front of the class.

Action:The teacher introduced the concept of travel diaries requiring students to draft diary entries for various travel destinations around the world. A basic framework for information that could be included was provided. Utilising a simple green screen, video and images students assumed the role of travel advisor and presented their diary entries to camera.

Outcome: The student in question was highly motivated to engage in the activity and volunteered to be the first child to present their diary entry to camera. This enthusiasm and engagement continued throughout the activity. The child's mother commented positively on the child's new found confidence and enthusiasm for school.
